A chilly bike ride
Today was a cross-training day. I took part in the Polar Bear Pedal, a 10-mile ride through Downtown and the south side.
It was chilly: 19 degrees when I loaded my bike into my car at 8:45 for the 20 minute drive to the starting area. I bundled up in four layers and decided I wouldn’t let a little cold air stop me.
I wasn’t the only one. More than 1,000 people showed up this morning to take part.
The ride started and ended at City Market downtown. It took in a lot of landmarks, including Monumental Circle, Lucas Oil Stadium, the Stadium, the Statehouse, the Central Library, Garfield Park and Pleasant Run Parkway.
Mayor Ballard, a cycling enthusiast, led the ride the first mile or so. Check out his badass pants.
I didn’t know many other riders, but about halfway through, I ran into a neighborhood friend, Tony. We pedaled together and caught up on our lives for the last four or five miles.
Well, that was a fun way to beat the chill. Now got to find a plan for next weekend.
