Forget the trails, hoist the sails.

Now that the hard training runs are over, let’s take a day off and enjoy ourselves.

And what better place than on a sailboat, with a sea spray and cool breezes?

Yes, today, Trail Boy became Sail Boy.

And what a day to go sailing: not too gusty, not too sunny, and the last day of a three-day holiday weekend, just begging for something fun.

I don’t  own a sailboat, but some of my friends do. So when they say, “Will you come sailing with us,” there’s only one correct answer: “What can we bring?”

A friend of ours, Rick, who like us is an Ohio transplant, is a sea dog from way back. He owns a whole bunch of small boats.

Today, we spent three hours sailing around the Eagle Creek Lake under full sail.

The boys, who haven’t been sailing in years, enjoyed themselves. They took turns holding the lines and the tiller. Steven spent more than an hour steering the boat, and loved every minute.
.
As much as I love trails, it’s nice to take a day off from hard training every now and then to do something fun and different. The trails will be there when I get back in a day or two.
